    How this works

Canada uses a progressive tax system - higher earnings are taxed at higher rates. This calculator applies federal brackets plus the brackets for your selected province, subtracts the basic personal amount, and reports the total.

For illustration only. Does not include CPP, EI, provincial health premiums, dividends, capital gains, or tax credits beyond the basic personal amount.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which tax year does this calculator use?

This calculator uses 2026 federal and provincial tax brackets, indexed for inflation where announced. Rates for provinces that have not yet published 2026 brackets use the most recent indexed figures.

Does this include CPP and EI premiums?

Yes. CPP (including CPP2 enhancement) and EI premiums are shown separately and deducted from after-tax income. Quebec residents pay QPP and a lower EI rate (QPIP is not modeled).

What is the difference between marginal and average tax rate?

Your marginal rate is the tax you pay on your next dollar earned - useful for RRSP contribution decisions. Your average rate is your total tax divided by total income - closer to what you actually pay overall.

    Why is Quebec different?

Quebec administers its own provincial income tax system separately from the CRA. This calculator applies the federal Quebec abatement is not modelled here, so Quebec figures should be treated as approximate.
